Pickering Earth Day 2025
For the third year running, Pickering Environment Group, Pickering Town CIC, Beck Isle Museum and many other partners are organising a community project to celebrate Earth Day. This year the aim is to inspire people to reduce waste in all its forms through recycling, repairing, upcycling and reusing.

Programme of Events
Saturday 26th April
Hungate Centre (10am – 2pm) Refreshments available!
- Jumble Sale run by Pickering WI. Pre-loved clothes at bargain prices! Refreshments to be offered using some food from Pickering Food Share
- Pickering Food Share stall/tombola
- North Yorkshire Rotters with their famous “smoothie bike”
Beck Isle Museum (10:30am – 3:30pm)
- Making clay leaf prints, clippy mats, bird feeders, bottle top creatures, “green cleaning” demo, apple pressing (with Ryedale Env Group support)
- The fabulous “This Little Piggie” monthly market will also be in full swing in the museum grounds
Memorial Hall (Beckett Suite, 1st Floor) (10-3pm)
- Make a fun creature, loveable pet, or hideous monster, using waste. Chris Geeson will show you how to turn old socks and plastic bottlecaps into amazing characters. Children are invited to bring old or damaged socks (clean and dry only, please!)
- Ryedale Remakes: origami using pages from old books
Black Swan Hotel (10am – 3pm)
- Repair Café (outside, CIC gazebos if needed). The team will be on hand to repair, clothes, tech, bikes, furniture, appliances and more!
- Need help with garment repair? Pickering Sew ‘n’ Sews will be on hand to assist you
Outside Beckside Crafts
- Beyond Plastics stall (Ryedale Environment Group). Learn about the damage that plastic waste is doing to the environment – and us! Handy hints on reducing your plastic usage. Free reusable water bottles & cups (until they run out!)
- HQ for our Earth Day Eco Treasure Hunt organised by Pickering Town Council. Details to follow
Riverside Walk (Ropery Car Park, 10am – 3pm)
- Yorkshire Water – how you can help to improve water quality and save water
- North Yorkshire Moors National Park with their famous interactive Rivers Demonstration Table
Balance Rooms All profits to Pickering Food Share.
- Earth’s chakras Yoga class at 9am for 1 hour (£12)
- Earth’s empowerment Pilates class at 10.15am for 1 hour (£12)
- Essential Oils workshop at 11.30am for 1 hour and 30 minutes (£5)
- Earthy Children’s Yoga and ballet at 2pm for 1 hour (FREE)
- Healing sound bath with Jim and his gongs at 6pm for 1 hour and 30 minutes (£15)

Tuesday 22 nd April, 7pm
People Planet Pint Sustainability Meet-up
An informal meet-up over a drink, to find out what’s going on locally with sustainability and how you can get involved. Registration here gets you a free drink! This is actual Earth Day, and is one of many PPP meet-ups across the country being held on this day.
Thursday 24th April 7pm
Climate Fiction Prize Evening, Pickering Book Tree
Come along for a relaxed evening to discuss, share and celebrate the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize. Expect bookish chat and bookshop browsing, with offers on the longlisted books. Share your favourites from this year’s longlist and the wider climate fiction genre, and maybe pick up a read recommended to you on the night! Free entry, but you need to reserve your place.
