In 2022 Kirby Misperton Parish Council agreed for a stretch of roadside verge on the outskirts of the village to be managed in a way that would benefit wild flowers and other wildlife. Since then, a “cut and collect” regime has been in place, whereby the verge is cut only twice per year (April and September) and clippings collected and removed from the site. Local residents carry out the work with the support of Ryedale Environment Group.

After a slow start, wild flowers are now starting to thrive.  A survey in June 2025 counted 26 species of wild flowers and grasses. Yellow Rattle seeds and a few Ox-Eye Daisy and Fox and Cubs plug plants were introduced in October 2024, but all other species appeared naturally.
